It’s certainly not uncommon for artists in the music industry to push the boundaries of what is socially acceptable in their music video visuals and lyrics. Whilst shocking or provoking displays are often dubbed ‘publicity stunts’, many artists pluck topical social themes in a bid to ‘normalise’ topics that are repressed. Lil Nas X is the latest artist to garner controversy with his new music video ‘Montero (Call Me By Your Name)’. Volunteer Label writer Rebecca Pearson reflects on the work from home setup; one of the many ‘new normals’ that the pandemic threw at us back when it all began in 2020. While there may be some logistical benefits, is the permeance of this new work environment unrealistic?    Before the pandemic hit, working from home was often a contested topic. How would companies manage their employees’ productivity? How would the workplace function successfully? Would ‘teamwork’ still be a thing? However, since COVID-19, the bustling ‘workplace’ has become a thing of the past – a mirage-like space that exists now only…

TW: details of racial abuse and violent hate crimes. On the 16th March, a gunman targeted a number of Asian massage parlours in the Atlanta area, leaving eight dead. With all of the victims Asian, this was a deadly and racist act of terrorism by a white supremacist. The gunman’s motives, which were obviously based on anti-Asian hate, were branded as “sex addiction”. This just emphasises the sexualisation Asian women face, even in the event of a deadly shooting. However, this is nothing new. The Centre for the Study of Hate and Extremism at California State University released findings in…
