(Loughborough M2) v (Nottingham M3) 4 – 1

BUCS Midlands Conference

Holywell Pitch 4

Loughborough men’s 2nd team scored twice in the first half and added another set of two goals in the second half to comfortably beat Nottingham men’s 3rd team at home, Holywell park.

The Loughborough side had many injuries but still managed to show off some attractive football with the attacking 4-2-1-3 formation. Meanwhile, the Nottingham side showed their lack of confidence by presenting one man upfront, and ten men behind the ball tactic, resulting in fair-to-call ‘one-sided game’ for our lads.

7 minutes in, Charlie Bull beautifully gave a short cross from the left-hand corner of the penalty area which Nick Richardson connected into the net with his right foot.

The Nottingham side struggled to keep in possession, as Loughborough began to dominate, especially down the right flank. One minute before the half time whistle, Loughborough had their second goal through the efforts of Charlie Bull. His shot went straight over the Nottingham goal keeper, giving him absolutely no chance to even touch it.

In the second half, Nottingham did look threatening on the counter-attack and they came close to scoring, however several shots deflected off the bar.

Nottingham’s failure in their all-out counter-attacks led to early exhaustion and thus, it allowed two more goals from Loughborough. The third goal was from Miles Langford. He nicely chipped the ball in, around the goal keeper. The fourth goal was from Nick Richardson who yet again shined with his composed ball-control, confirming a home victory.

Nottingham showed effort with Joel Burke’s late goal, but it was too late to come back.

The game ended 4 – 1, Loughborough win.
