Thursday nights at LSU have long been about being open to International and Postgraduate students. That’s all about to change, here’s what you can expect instead…

What is ‘Fresh’?

Label spoke with VP: Welfare and Diversity, Gemma Lomas and VP: Finance and Commercial Services, James Bowker to find out more:

“Semester 2 will see the launch of our brand new night, filled with Fresh events, Fresh opportunities and Fresh thinking!  The night provides students with popular events such as the Roller Disco and Raveminton, as well as the opportunity to lead the night themselves, such as society discussion panels or cultural evenings.”

February 4th will see the first ‘Fresh’ of the year, changing from Universal Thursday.

Why?

In the annual student survey, LSU received many comments about the lack of non-alcoholic events outside of the freshers period. As a result, the nights calendar has had a rejig and you’ll be able to enjoy a night out in the union that provides non- alcoholic activities for students, as opposed to your standard Hey Ewe and FND.

Will there be an international night?

Your Universal Thursday will now be held fortnightly on a Saturday evening and will aim to reach the same group of students, maintaining its reputation for reaching out to postgrads, mature students and international students. If you’re a Universal Thursday fan or are interested in something new, you may move that specific interest to a Saturday night as well as taking an interest in the new Thursday events, providing you with even more options!

Look out for Label’s views on the changes to your nights out in the next couple of weeks. We’ll also be catching up with VP: Welfare and Diversity, Gemma Lomas and VP: Finance and Commercial Services, James Bowker to find out more. Let us know what you think by tweeting @LabelOnline.
