As a final year, I am making it my goal to try lots of things that I (somehow) haven’t gotten around to yet. Graduating from Loughborough with untested experiences certainly isn’t an option! If you need inspiration for your own ‘Leaving Luff Bucket List’ then look no further than this article…
Moving into an off-campus house this year has opened my eyes to a whole host of new places in town that I’d never even considered before. After a long night out several weeks ago, my friends and I attempted to make a pitstop at the much-loved McDonalds, but after realising that everyone else in Loughborough had the same idea we decided to find somewhere new. That is where Chocalatte came in clutch with a burger and ice cream for £5! They had a variety of items on their menu, and it was great to go somewhere that we had heard lots about but never tried before. We definitely recommend, so it deserves a spot on your ‘Leaving Luff Bucket List’ if you haven’t already tried it!
As simple as it sounds, living in town has added newness into my everyday routine. The new route to lectures provides a much more ‘scenic’ walk, and the additional time to listen to music motivates me for the day by the time that I arrive on campus. This has been perfect for early morning lectures! Switching up your usual walk is something that I would recommend to brighten up your day, ticking off all of the shortcuts or ways around Loughborough before you leave.
The latest thing that I have tried out is some new fitness activities. Unlike most people at Loughborough, I am not very sporty. However, in the interest of my ‘Leaving Luff Bucket List’ I wanted to try out a fitness class to see what all of the fuss is about! A Zumba session with my course friends provided a fantastic break from studying and is certainly something that I would do again. If you’re also in the minority and feel very uncoordinated, you should definitely still give this a go.
With sports and fitness being of great popularity in Loughborough, I enlisted the help of a sporty friend, Sebastian Mote, to provide more of an insight into the activities that you could try if you haven’t already:
“In the bleak midwinter, Loughborough can seem a very small place: sometimes, it feels like there is seldom anything to do. But there are plenty of opportunities to try new things here. Certainly, there is nowhere better to take up new sports. Tennis is one such sport I would recommend to everyone to at least try. It has the advantage of being quite short (you can be finished within an hour). There is little waiting between points and it is an active game. The tennis facilities are excellent here. There is no commitment to play, either, as the booking system is pay-as-you-go. However, it is a very technical game and it takes time to develop. Padel is a much easier, gentler, more social alternative played with three of your mates. You can play with practically zero technique; you just hit the ball gently over the net from close range. It involves light exercise, which you don’t even notice when playing. And hitting balls with your friends is a really fun hour!”
So, whether you’re on campus or in town, sporty or not, I hope that this article has inspired you of things to do/places to go before your own graduation!
