Label spoke to Billy Wonka Marsh as his campaign for Action Chair got fully underway yesterday. When asked “Why Wonka?” he told us:

“Why not? It’s fun, it’s colourful and it’s inventive! I like to try and inject some fun into whatever I do.”

With aspirations to shake up Action via a “bottom-up reinvention”, Marsh aims to boost volunteer numbers by an involvement, inclusion and recognition strategy. Acknowledging to being a “pragmatist”, the candidate believes that inviting the opinions and involvement of the volunteers will make for a more effective running of the section.

In terms of current campaign schemes, Marsh is keen to reach out to students directly. “I love Loughborough and the local community and want that to spread throughout the university and colleges. The fanfare and sweets help but I want to talk to people, hear their concerns and solve their issues… I’m a very approachable person and can answer any question at any time.”

Although Marsh stands uncontested for his position, an understanding of the need for an effective campaign is evident. “I think the fluorescent shirts last night showed why my campaign stands out! I think people look at the theme and it reminds them of the famous film. It’s light-hearted, fun and everyone can relate to it in someway!”
