This Way, Towards Bravery
Where Youth are Empowered.
This Way, Towards Acceptance
Where Humanity is Embraced.
This Way, Towards Love
Where Individuality is Encouraged.
With that slogan, Lady Gaga starts her new charitable foundation, which she launches with her mother Cynthia Germanotta. Named the ‘Born This Way Foundation’, it aims to empower, encourage and inspire young people.
The project was named after her second album and its title track ‘will focus on youth empowerment and equality by addressing issues like self-confidence, well-being, anti-bullying, mentoring and career development’.
The foundation will work with a number of partners, including the John D. & Catherine T. MacArthur Foundation, the California Endowment and the Berkman Center for Internet & Society at Harvard University.
The idea for the foundation began after the tragic news of 14-year old Lady Gaga fan Jamey Rodemeyer committing suicide after being bullied over his sexuality. His final words were cast directly to his idol via Twitter, reading: “@ladygaga bye mother monster thank you for all you have done, paws up forever.”
The foundation officially opens in 2012 and everyone who wants to join it can do so by going to its website www.bornthiswayfoundation.com. "Together we hope to establish a standard of Bravery and Kindness, as well as a community worldwide that protects and nurtures others," said the pop star.
Still it’s not clear how she is going to use the money from the foundation specifically but like it’s said, we’ll wait and see.
But it’s not the first time Mother Monster is taking part in charity work. Last month she donated $13,000 to charity at the Little Kids Rock Event. In March, Gaga decided to support the victims from the Japan earthquake by selling ‘Japan Prayer Bracelets’ and raising funds to help those affected: she donated $1.5million!
Unfortunately, she was accused for scamming fans by pocketing funds raised by her charity and was sued for $3million by Michigan Legal Network, 1800LAWFIRM.
After all this controversy, I look forward to find out more about her first solo project and I hope it is going to be less scandalous and more productive. After all in May this year, Forbes magazine named her as the most powerful celebrity in the world.
Who knows what she could do for a charitable cause.
