Stuff to do: Nottingham Comedy in November
Four of the United Kingdom’s leading comics are coming to town – well not quite to town, Nottingham to be exact. If you’re a fan of panel shows such as ‘8 Out of 10 Cats’, ‘Mock the Week’ or self-loathing individuals who have nothing useful to say, this is something for you. Here I will take you through Nottingham Royal Concert Hall’s delicious comedic line-up for this November.
If his infamous seduction of women and well reported drug addiction wasn’t enough to get him recognised, his shaggy back-combed hair and relations with pop-Queen Katy Perry was enough. Russell Brand brings you his ‘Messiah Complex’ on 1st and 2nd of November. He will be touching on society’s obsession with heroes and how they influence our lives. But of course, it wouldn’t be a Brand signature performance if there wasn’t talk of ‘sex, obviously’. This show looks like a fascinating exploration of current recognised heroes in this ‘age of disposability’ from the insightful yet chaotic mind of Mr Brand. This is not one to miss.
If you prefer someone even more ridiculous than Brand, why not see the universally loved Greg Davies (Headmaster in The Inbetweeners). Back by popular demand, his critically-acclaimed show, ‘The Back of my Mums head’ graces the Royal Concert Hall’s spotlight on 18th November. His sorry tales includes episodes of teenage abnormality; such as hitting his friends around the head with a pack of pittas, exposing himself in a light that his former Mr Gilbert character would be very ashamed of!
One of my favourite comedians, who captained on ‘8 Out of 10 Cats’, dabbled in opera but couldn’t stay far away from comedy for too long, is the lovable quick-witted Jason Manford. He introduces his brand new 2013 tour on 21st November. If his resume is something to go by – stand up sets include 'Michael McIntyre's Comedy Roadshow', ‘Live at the Apollo’ and 'The Royal Variety Performance' – you will not be disappointed! He promises ‘comedy anecdotes, comic misunderstandings and audience banter’ with his Manford charm.
If this line-up wasn’t mind blowing enough, how about topping it off with an Irish four-eyed self-confessed ‘miserable old git’: it could only be Ed Byrne. You will have seen him on panel shows such as ‘Never Mind the Buzzcocks’ and ‘Mock the Week’. He invites you to join him in embracing his forties; a time where many individuals have a mid-life crisis, he decides to exhibit himself in front of a large audience.
