The Loughborough University Literary Festival takes off on the 15th of May!
Every year the University’s English MA students are handed a purse, given a crash-course in festival management, and told to have at it. This year marks the festival’s fifth anniversary, and this time it’s all about hope—bestselling and prize-winning authors will be giving talks and running writing workshops focused on the positive power of literature in times of crisis.
Everyone is welcome, so check out our events below,

Juliet Jacques has a wealth of literary and media experience as a short story and memoir author, filmmaker, journalist, radio show host and academic. A Writing Workshop with Juliet Jacques: The Hopeful Pen
James France D002, 20th May, 1–2:30pm
After an hour’s break where we will lay on some free food, Juliet’s back to deliver a writing workshop. In particular, we’ll be thinking about and working with the piece of creative art which makes you most hopeful or motivates you to keep writing.
Open Mic: Say Your Piece
Martin Hall Stanley Evernden Studio (aka MHL014), 21st May, 6–8:30pm
Meet us in Martin Hall’s Stanley Evernden Studio for an open mic event to close out the festival. We’ll have readings from our own Creative Writing Master’s students, shortlisted entrants to our creative writing competition and, in the remaining time, those who are happy to speak on the day.
Whether you have work to read or want to spend an evening listening to Loughborough’s diverse artistic voices, we’ll be ending the festival on a high note.
