Have you ever wondered why Pagans jump over broomsticks? Or what makes a cow holy to the Hindu religion? Even if these questions are the last thing on your mind right now, there’s always something fascinating to be learnt from understanding and celebrating faith in its enormous capacity.
Under the guidance of VP Welfare and Diversity Georgie Court, as well as student faith groups from the Centre For Faith and Spirituality, campus gets set to host its first ever celebration of multiple religions this Thursday April 25th.
Continuing through until evening, the drive behind the day is to promote diversity and develop an understanding of different belief systems. At 12pm until 5pm, James France Exhibition area plays host to students from a variety of faiths such as Hinduism, Christianity, Paganism, Sikhism, Judaism and Islamism, explaining what their group does and answering any questions you may have. Just across campus, the Showcase Programme (Brockington Ground Floor) gives students half an hour to display and discuss something from their faith, even offering a chance to take part in a typical religious session (like meditation)!
Continuing over at the Union, the event gets even more exciting as the evening progresses, celebrating with a ‘Feast of Faiths’ from 5.30 to 7.30pm in Room 1. An opportunity to learn from one another and enjoy eating and socialising, this event is free and welcomes all students, although sign up is required.
Following on from what promises to be the biggest and best ‘International Day’ on Wednesday, ‘Inter-Faith Day’ invites everyone along regardless of whether you have a faith or not! Promising to be an insightful chance to share with others what motivates us in life, the event is sure to be a success for years to come.
