Zak is running to be the next VP: Finance and Commercial Services against Chris McKenna. Dressed in a smart suit and very enthusiastic to discuss his manifesto points and ideas, we asked the former Rigg-Rutt hall chair our big five questions:

  1. What are the main reasons for you running for VP Finance?

"Since my first year I’ve been involved with every section of the University. I’ve been a Social Sec, which has involved the commercial aspects of running events. Now, I want to focus more on redeveloping the Union, and the nights out that it provides to students. I want to give them more of an experience, and also more of an input."

  1. What do you think of the current VP Finance and is there anything you would plan to do differently if you were in that position next year?

"Me and Rory are very different. He hasn’t really had much of a hall experience; he has had more experience in the finance side of things. I come very much from a hall background, so for me it’s more about working with the halls, getting out to them and letting them market for us."

  1. What is your one main manifesto point?

"My main manifesto point is to listen to the students. I aim to expand the range of students that come to the Union, so I want to listen to them and find out what they want to see at their Union."

  1. Why should students vote for you to be the next VP Finance over anyone else in Loughborough?

"That’s a difficult one. My personality is one thing that sets me apart from other people. A lot of people that will meet me for the first time will be like ‘woah’. But then once you get to know me, and listen to me, I’m actually an alright guy. I get on with the job, and I’m very confident in what I do. I know that I can achieve what I want. Through my hall and being on various committees, I’ve worked to my extreme, as you can probably see through the results. In everything that I’ve been involved in, we’ve achieved. So that’s what I will do; stop at no end to make sure we achieve what I want to."

  1. In one sentence, can you sum up what you think the role of VP Finance involves?

"Working with the students for the students."
