Most of us do enjoy a good night out but it’s not for everyone, or at least not for every night! But sometimes it’s nice to wake up without a headache or other unexplained injury from the night before. Being from a big city myself I can understand why some people think Loughborough has nothing to do, but you just need to look in the right places. These are my top 5 things to do in Loughborough in your free time:

1. Going to the Cinema

The tried and tested favourite is definitely going to the cinema. The Odeon is in the centre of town and to continue with the clichés there is usually something for everyone. Prices for students are £5 on a Tuesday so its not an expensive activity for those who love the getaway of a great film.

2. The Climbing Station

The rock climbing centre is just on the outskirts of town. They offer rock climbing and bouldering over an 800 sqm surface. It’s a great alternative to the everyday and prices start at £2.50 for a lifetime membership! With prices like this and only a short drive away from campus it’s a fantastic way to have fun, keep fit and try something new.

3. Beacon Bingo

I’m not suggesting gambling away your whole student loan but Beacon Bingo is a brilliant sociable activity for everyone. The Bingo Hall is located in town so it’s easily accessible and theres the chance to win £25,000 every session! Furthermore there are smaller machines and electronic ticket tables which offer a range of entertainment for all!

4. Societies and Sport Clubs

The Uni is home to a huge number of sports clubs. Whether you’re a seasoned professional, a complete beginner or somewhere in between, there is definitely something you’d enjoy. The societies offered also span enormously across genres and categories, from the Scandinavian Society to The Disney Society, and The Christian Union to Paintballing club. Everyone is able to find a club to suit them or even find something new to get involved in!

5. Food

Be it staying in with Netflix and a takeaway, inviting your friends over for a homemade roast dinner or going out for a meal in town, everyone likes food! It doesn’t have to be expensive, Domino’s Pizza are constantly delivering new offers to tickle your taste buds. There are plenty of places in town to go for a meal including The Cactus Cafe, Goodliffe’s, Varsity, Peter’s and the Toby Carvery to name a few.

With all of these options as well as the classic night out, there’s no excuse not to get out and try something new!
