'Pompeii' – Bastille

After a short break, Song of the Week is back! This week it goes to a fairly new band, Bastille, with their track 'Pompeii'. Bastille only formed in 2010 but managed to secure a record deal with Virgin Records in December 2011 and released their debut single 'Overjoyed' in April 2012. Pompeii was released in February of this year, ahead of the release of their debut album, and reached number two in the UK Singles Charts.

It is an unusual track to say the least, unusual but brilliant. Lead singer Dan Smith’s distinguished vocals are second to none and complement the instrumentals perfectly. Dominated by a choir of deep male voices throughout much of the track, along with the clever use of various forms of percussion, this track is like no other you will have heard before. Currently sitting at number five in the UK Singles Charts and at number seven in the UK Album Charts with debut album 'Bad Blood', this band is very much on the rise, and 'Pompeii' is definitely worth a listen!
