Goldrush, Loughborough’s Cheerleading team, achieved second place when they competed in the International Cheerleading Coalition (ICC) Nationals at Senior all-girl Level 4, the highest University standard, at the Nottingham Capital FM arena over the weekend.

On Saturday the team were up against six teams, three university teams and three all-star (or non-university) teams and came third. This meant they qualified for the finals on Sunday along with 4 other teams in the same category.

Goldrush’s hip hop squad also qualified for the finals on Sunday.

Sunday saw the team produce a much cleaner routine than the day before. This saw the team rise to second place, ahead of closest University rivals Southampton Vixens and Cardiff Snakecharmers, and scoring higher than all-star team Coventry Dynamite who have been together for years and beat the girls in the qualifiers on Saturday.

Unity Allstars Ruby deservedly earned first place; they hit an almost perfect routines both days and also took home the title of National All-Girl Grand Champions.

An anonymous post on the UK Cheerleading Forum said: “Does anyone else agree that Loughborough Goldrush pulled off fantastic routines on both days!? Especially as they're a university team! I was exceptionally impressed.”

The team told Label they “were all over the moon with second place, especially as we beat all-star teams, it was such an achievement for us as we worked so hard for it, particularly in the week up to the competition, and we put out the highest difficulty routine any university ever has.”

Goldrush must now turn their attention to the National competition on the weekend of June 30 where they’ll look to continue their recent success.
