The Orange Tree has proposed a £250,000 plan to renovate the former Newshouse bar in Loughborough’s Bedford Square into a new nightspot venue.

Gareth Smith, managing director of The Orange Tree pub group, has claimed to be “aiming to put together a special ambience that enhances the current night life of Loughborough.”

It is hoped that this will be achieved by plans to produce three different areas within the night club, which will be situated next to The Orange Tree itself, each with a different function; a dancing room downstairs, a chilled and relaxed room upstairs and a “leafy roof terrace”.

Smith has also suggested that the new venue will take inspiration from “the speakeasy bars of the American 20s” which offered “great cocktails and fun dancing.”

It is hoped that the new night spot will be open by November once Charnwood Borough council have made a decision on The Orange Tree’s plans.
