Returning Label volunteer, Bella Butler, brings you our latest sports piece on F3 driver, Billy Monger. Billy Monger is a remarkable young man with an incredible story. After being involved in a horrific racing car crash when he was 17 years old, he became a double amputee. Yet this didn’t deter Billy in his love of motor racing. Billy started car racing when he was just 6 years old; by the age of 10, he was a British Champion. In April 2017, Billy was top of his game having podiumed frequently; his results being his best to date. At…
Volunteer, Meg Jocson Ong, brings us into the New Year with tips on how you can keep an eye on what you spend this year, while still having fun. Through experience, I have 7 tips to help you get through the big hurdle that is the student budget! 1. Volunteer writer, Liam Hopley, gives us a low down of 10 of the best projects to come out of 2018. The importance of the album continued its sad decline in 2018 – despite “In My Feelings” and “Thank U, Next” being amazing singles, it felt like neither Drake or Ariana put as much thought into their LPs, which feature filler tracks aplenty. Tranquility Base Hotel and Casino is another high profile omission: it was a bit like that Arctic Monkeys acceptance speech – I felt compelled to listen, but afterwards wondered why I’d wasted so much time indulging Alex…
Welcome to Label’s fortnightly news update, bringing you a few headlines from Loughborough, the UK and around the world. Winter Graduation The University has recently hosted its winter graduation ceremonies to celebrate the achievements of hundreds of students. Four honorary doctorates were also awarded to four Olympic gold medallists. Loughborough alumnae and hockey players Dr Hannah MacLeod, Madeleine Hinch, Nicola White and Giselle Ansley made history when they won gold in the Rio 2016 Olympics, along with the rest of their GB hockey team. The women made several inspiring speeches and the event was presided over by our Chancellor,…
In the first instalment of our Globe Trotting feature, our Editor, Amie Woodyatt, writes of her experiences travelling through Europe this summer – including some of the biggest trials and tribulations of her road trip! This summer I spent two weeks driving to (and back from) Dubrovnik, Croatia. It was a tough journey with lows of sleeping in the back of a 2001 Ford Fiesta and being charged £60 for parking overnight in Dubrovnik (tourist traps: they exist), to highs of having an apartment for two and finding a cheap room in Venice. It was a wild ride, and…
Label’s own Music Editor, Henna Amin, sits down with up-and-coming singer Cat Burns after her performances on the Coffee House Sessions Tour. Hi Cat, thanks for chatting with Label today! I’m from Streatham in South London, and I’ve always had a love for music but only wanted to pursue it properly after a school talent show in Year 6 when I realised this was my dream. Year 6, those were the days. How would you…
