Returning volunteer, Rahul Mathasing, shares why if he could change one thing about the world it would be ‘cancel culture’. Cancelling cancel culture What would I get rid of if I could? Cancel Culture. You’ve got to love a bit of irony. Let me clarify though… I’m only referring to the oblique, unresearched few who follow a current trend of opinions and decide that they too must be outraged and boycott or vilify someone or something. Those who draw genuine trauma or attachment from an issue or a person in the news, you cancel away if it helps you, or…

Volunteer Label writer, Macey Williams, looks and questions whether we should be turning to some of the world’s richest in a time of need and desperation.  The number of billionaires has doubled in the last decade. As of 2019, there were 2,153 billionaires globally, worth a combined $8.7 trillion. Amazon CEO Jeff Bezos alone counts for $131 billion of this figure, making him the world’s richest person to date.   Such staggering figures raise the moral question of just how fair it is for a small number of individuals to possess more wealth than half of the world’s population combined. The…

In this very fitting article considering current affairs, returning volunteer Label writer, Ellis Ward, reminds us of the comforts which make being at home so satisfying. Home truly is where the heart is!   The independent life changes and student lifestyle that university enforces automatically make you miss the comforts of your family home – appreciate the little things. Few of us remember the old days.  Bit macabre…? Well that’s the way it looks to be going as Disney are set to further launch their Streaming platform. Disney+ will be live in the UK on March 24th, alongside Sky as a partner.  The official Launch in November 2019 brought with it the usual technical difficulties, and many…

In this article, Label’s Head of Social Media, Leah Langely, explores the ‘Not-So Social’ aspects of social media in our current technological climate. Of the approximate 7.7 billion people in the world, it is estimated that 3.5 billion of us are internet users. Research has shown that social media is used by one-in-three people in the world, with people averaging two or more hours a day on social media alone. MySpace was the first social media site of its kind to reach a million active users (monthly) in 2004, this marking the start of social media as we now know…

Here’s what your candidates for Enterprise Section Chair had to say to Label!  Charley Bircumshaw  What are the main points of your manifesto? Increasing further engagement across the campus, looking specifically at increasing engagement in halls and looking at the demographic at each year group to provide the right events. Building on what has already been achieved this year, we’ve had a great turnout within the section, even with the growth we’ve experienced, it’s still such a new section. I was to be able to manage this growth and create a more of a community atmosphere. I want to look…
