A bid for £32 million pounds of funding to transform Loughborough has been submitted to the government. Charnwood Borough Council, Loughborough University, Leicestershire County Council and others have collectively formed the ‘Loughborough Town Deal Board’, which has drawn up proposals for a range of projects that aim to improve skills and job prospects, redefine the town centre, improve the local environment and showcase the town’s heritage. Robert Allison, Vice-Chancellor of Loughborough University, has contacted students telling them that they must not “move between their permanent home and student home” during term time to limit the spread of COVID-19 and that “the University… will remain open.” This follows an announcement by the Government on Sunday that England would return to a lockdown until the 2nd December from Thursday. The Prime Minister has announced a new National Lockdown will come into force at 00:01 on 5th November. At a press conference this afternoon the Prime Minister, Boris Johnson, announced the latest series of measures put in place to control Covid-19. This follows quickly after several more areas, including Loughborough, entered Tier 2 restrictions. Loughborough and the surrounding Charnwood district are to move into Tier 2 lockdown restrictions from Saturday morning, the Department of Health has announced. From 00:01 on Saturday, those living within Charnwood must not meet socially with friends and family indoors in any setting, unless they live with them or have formed a support bubble.
