Gender inequality has been a hot issue thought history, and though we have certainly moved forward by leaps and bounds in terms of levelling the “playing field” for the sexes there is still some ways to go. Though women now have many more rights than before — among which the right to vote, own land, work and pursue a career — there are countless social stigmas against them which dictate how they their actions are perceived, and consequently their image within society as a whole. At first, there wouldn’t appear to be a problem at all, I mean women should…
I visited Sudan last year in Kenya. He was bruised at the edge of his rump (a body part of rhinos just above the tail) in a fight with another of his species. He had lost one eye and suffered several age-related complications. His guard explained Sudan’s life to us, highlighting why he was captured, why he refused to mate and why he behaved the way he did. I distinctly remember him letting me feed Sudan a stick of sugar cane as a reward for showing up when whistled. There were only five northern white rhinos remaining in 2005 when…

Bottom of the table Serbia fell to yet another defeat at the Loughborough University Stadium, this time at the hands of the Netherlands. Brian Brobbey’s brace puts the Netherlands at the top of Group D, where they will face the Republic of Ireland in a key quarter final on Monday. [videojs mp4=”https://webvids.lsu.co.uk/2017-18/LSUTV/Sport/Netherlands_Serbia.mp4″ poster=”http://media.lsu.co.uk/wp-content/uploads/2018/05/Poster-1.jpg”] The Netherlands’ clinical front three outclassed the weak Serbian back line, with their 6 shots on target compared to Serbia’s one demonstrating the difference in class between the two teams of youngsters. Despite Serbia starting on the front foot, with good attempts from Novaković and Jovanović missing the target in…
Already eliminated Slovenia fell to yet another defeat, this time at the hands of Norway who topped Group B and will go on to face England in the Quarter Finals. [videojs mp4=”https://webvids.lsu.co.uk/2017-18/LSUTV/Sport/Norway_Slovenia_web.mp4″ poster=”http://media.lsu.co.uk/wp-content/uploads/2018/05/IMG_8960-e1526057343263.jpg”] Efficient play from the Scandinavians, with two swift first half goals from Leo Cornic (32) and Oscar Aga (38) means Slovenia, who had no shots on target during a luckless afternoon, are now out of the tournament. A reckless challenge and a later blatant dive from captain Tamar Svetlin resulted in two yellow cards, leaving Slovenia with only 10 men after 20 minutes which did not help…
With the summer holidays just around the corner and mother nature blessing us with decent weather, some of the students of Loughborough have been dressing up in bright and trendy pieces ranging from clothing to accessories. These are just a few of the trends I’ve noticed the past few weeks: Tube tops This classic 90s trend is back and have been around Loughborough ever since the sun started shining and the clouds started clearing earlier this April! Tube tops are usually worn with high waisted jeans or a denim skirt. It’s a simple piece that can be worn during the…
Germany thwarted a luckless Serbian side at the Loughborough University Stadium, as Bozdogan (18) and Dajaku’s (24, 37) first half strikes resigned Serbia to a bottom half finish in Group D and an early crash out of the tournament. [videojs mp4=”https://webvids.lsu.co.uk/2017-18/LSUTV/Sport/Serbia_Germany.mp4″ poster=”http://media.lsu.co.uk/wp-content/uploads/2018/05/Poster.jpg”] After a 1-0 defeat to Spain in Burton, a point was vital for the Eagles, but Germany’s relentless attacking front proved deadly in the first half, where Slavkovic conceded 3 goals in 20 minutes behind a weak defensive back line, despite a resurgent Serbian side in the latter part of the second half. The German 4-1-4-1 formation proved difficult to…
Okay, I’m a self-proclaimed book addict. I seem to only read YA fantasy books – sorry, I know I’m a bit old for this genre, but I have to escape to somewhere when revision and coursework get to be too much! If you’re not a big fan of fantasy books why don’t you comment down below some other book recommendations, so we can find more and more fantastic books.
In 2017, HMV reported that there had been a huge increase in demand and purchases of vinyl records since the 1980’s. Yes, we have Spotify and yes, we have YouTube but what they both fail to give us that records to is authenticity to the music. Hearing the needle scratch across the record and hearing the music blast out from our record players just sounds so much better than blasting Fleetwood Mac from my MacBook! It seems that everyone 25 and under has a record player or knows someone who has – which 10 years ago would not have been…
