It’s a New Year, so it’s out with the old (literally, aufweidersen flashbacks), and hello to the fresh Friday feature from music. Rather than run down the past like some nostalgic hedonist, we’re seeking the future, bringing you a ‘track of the week’, each week (we’re good like that), from a multitude of up and coming bands and artists, as well as a few album tracks that have been kept under the radar.

Up this week: ‘Don’t Blink’ (Live) – The River North

Following on from the finest of ALBA Records MCR (check out Scruffy Bear), The River North is another product of the recently launched Manchester based label. Formed in 2015, the alt rock band are already making waves in the local gig scene back in the perpetually rainy west, but that doesn’t mean they can’t cause of few tremors over here in the midlands too.

Featuring the unmistakable gruff Scottish tones of lead singer Sass Lafferty, ‘Don’t Blink’ the live version, rumbles along, moody throughout, akin to the melancholy tones of Biffy Clyro and co, but that isn’t to their detriment. Heavy and fuzzy in equal measure, the first release from The River North is nothing to be messed with, just as long as you turn it up loud.

Exciting stuff from the up and coming trio, make sure you keep an eye out for more from the Manchester based lads.
