December’s Illustration Competition Winner is Lacie Cummings with her Toy Story illustration. The theme of this issues’ competition was Childhood . Here’s what Lacie had to say:

I’m a Fine Art student in my final year ready to graduate in July.

My personal work away from University focuses on the technique of stippling; I use black fine nibbed pens and continuously use a dotting motion to produce each drawing which takes a considerable amount of time. Toy Story is one of my favourite childhood films and the dot drawing took an estimated 30 hours to complete.

As for themes, I enjoy producing a range of content from cartoon characters, portrait commissions, tattoos, animal portraits and more. Using the technique of stippling and a range of themes is interesting because there’s never a dull moment!

I take time producing my dot drawings because I take pleasure in being different from other artists. I want my work to be recognisable whilst having a personality of its own and the stipple technique allows me to do this. I would like to thank everyone who voted I really appreciate the support! These competitions are a great way to get your work out in the open and you get to see so many wonderful entries.

Congratulations to Lacie, we look forward to seeing more of her work and of course entries from other students too! Head over to the Label Facebook page for details on current competitions and to view entries.

(Winners are chosen according to the amount of ‘likes’ their work gets over on our Facebook page.)
