Last week’s Coffee House Session brought us another live act to brighten up our Monday afternoons in the Piazza in the form of Ooberfuse, a duo consisting of Cherrie and Hal. They describe themselves as a duo that “refuse the standard conventions” and their live set showed us just that.
They started off with a slick, stripped back version of Swedish House Mafia’s ‘Don’t You Worry Child’. Their take on the popular chart hit was refreshingly honest, the vocals held a nice tone and combined with the effortless keyboard playing made for quite a good cover.
They then performed one of their own songs, ‘Call My Name’ from their last
album, before doing a cover of ‘Titanium’, excellently exhibiting their wide vocal range. They follow this with another of their own songs entitled ‘Don’t Let It Go’. They opened by saying it was a work in progress that will be released early next year. With a spring vibe, the song was elegant and an easy listen. I’ll definitely be keeping my eye out for the finished version.
Ooberfuse rounded off the set with their own version of James Blunt’s ‘Beautiful’, a perfect way to leave the crowd wanting a little more.
All in all they put on a good show and I would definitely recommend checking out some of the work if you like a good, laid back vibe that doesn’t take itself too seriously.
