The latest in the AU’s series of Big Match sporting events will see the women’s cricket academy take to the field against a select England A side on Thursday May 3.

The England team features a host of exceptionally talented cricketers who are sure to produce an excellent game of cricket. Captained by Caroline Atkins the team consists of many members of the recent South Africa tour squad.

The likes of Deanna Cooper, Jodie Dibble, Beth MacGregor, Catherine Dalton and Tasha Miles all travelled over Easter to play in a series of 50-over and T20 matches in the subcontinent and sit on the fringe of the senior England squad.

If these players weren’t enough they will also be joined on the field by legendary England captain Charlotte Edwards, who with over 150 ODI appearances and an average of over 37, brings a wealth of experience with her to complete a formidable England side.

Whilst the talent amongst the England side is strong, four of the 14 South African tour party are in fact Loughborough students and will be representing their university come Thursday.

Captain Tammy Beaumont has experience of full international cricket after being part of tours in the West Indies, India and most recently New Zealand in March. Nat Sciver, Helen Shipman and Amy Jones make up the quartet who will then be joined by the universities finest players to set up an exciting challenge.

One notable absentee from the Loughborough team sheet is wicketkeeper Lauren Winfield who was selected to represent the England A side having shown excellent form.

The match begins at 12pm on Thursday at the Haslegrave pitch.
