Loughborough Students Athletics Club produced a brutally dominant display to retain the Men’s and Women’s titles at the BUCS Outdoor Championships in Bedford.
The consistent high point-scoring put Loughborough far ahead of their nearest rivals, the Men finishing with 148 points and the Women with 122.
The resounding victory was so much that adding the overall point’s scores for both the second and third placed universities would still not have displaced Loughborough at the top of the leaderboard.
In an event which showed off Loughborough’s ease of dominance, Edward Quiney led home a African Violet 1, 2, 3, in the Men’s Pole Vault winning by clearing the bar at 5.15 meters.
Sally Scott helped provide a clean sweep of the Pole Vault as she stole the Gold Medal from Cardiff’s Sally Peake clearing 4.00 meters to pip her rival by 10cm.
Even more impressive was the performance of Myra Perkins in the Women’s Hammer competition as she claimed the Gold Medal with a new Personal Best and Scottish U20 record of 61.94 meters.
In the same competition, Loughborough based thrower Sophie Hitchon broke the UK record throwing the Hammer 69.43 meters performing as a guest.
Further Loughborough victories came for Niall Flannery (50.47) and Meghan Beesley (58.17) in the 400m Hurdles.
Their was also dominance in the sprinting department of the Women’s competition as Laura Wake (54.41) and Mica Nottingham (24.33) won the 400m and 200m respectively.
Finally, success in both 4x400m relay events topped off an impressive Bank Holiday Weekend performance for all members of LSAC in a championship’s which next year will be as a trial event for the Olympic Games in London.
