Loughborough Students Gymnastics Club (LSGC) once again impressed at the BUCS Gymnastics Nationals on the 4th and 5th February at New College in Leicester. Sports Editor Jasmine Trapnell delves into the success of the weekend.

Bringing home a total of 24 individual medals including 11 golds – LSGC performed outstandingly! The women’s team even brought home the BUCS Champions title once again for the 4th year in a row!

The standout performances from the women’s team were from Tara Donnelly, who placed first overall in women’s grade 1 and from Kirsten Evans who placed 1st overall in women’s grade 2. Donnelly also won another gold and silver whilst Evans also won another silver too – totally 5 medals just between the two of them!

For the men, stand out performances came from Jack Oakes who placed 2nd overall in men’s grade 2, and from Chris Marfell who won 3 medals in the men’s grade 2. Marfell is also currently the Club Chair of LSGC, and this will be his final BUCS competition! Overall, the men’s team placed 3rd – bringing home a team bronze.

Medals were also won by the following women: Holly Curran (1 gold, 1 bronze in grade 1), Saoirse Maccana (1 gold, 1 bronze in grade 2) , Mali Evans Lugg (1 gold in grade 2), Louise Goulding (1 gold in grade 2), Zippy Wells Dion (1 gold in grade 2), Chelsea Pledge (1 silver in grade 3), and Katie Parkin (1 bronze in grade 3).

The following men also won multiple more medals: Gus Northfield (2 bronze in grade 2), Filip Poczatek (1 gold in grade 2), Chris O’shea (1 gold in grade 2), and Joshua Ashman (1 bronze in grade 2).

LSGC were also especially happy with this result due to recently re-locating to an off campus training facility which they are still adjusting to.

Well done to all those that represented Loughborough at BUCS Nationals
