“He’s behind you…”are the famous words associated with the festive pantomime season. If you are feeling a bit nostalgic for a bit of the familiar light-hearted and comical entertainment, then check out the top four pantomime performances in the local area.
1. Jack and the Beanstalk
Everyone is the familiar with the classic tale of Jack and the Beanstalk and, this year, Loughborough’s local Town Hall is putting on this comical display for people of all ages. Prices range from £7-14, and there are also standard family prices at £46 for two adults and two children. The show will run until 5th January.
2. Cinderella
Cinderella is often thought of as pantomime appealing only to young girls. But, who wants to miss the hilariously dressed, ugly sisters who are constantly bickering? This intimate production is directed by John Bale at The Little Theatre in Leicester. Tickets range from £12-14. Performances will run until 4th January, including early and late matinees and evening performances.
3. Aladdin
This year, the Imagine Theatre has decided to perform the enchanting tale of Aladdin to get everyone in the magical Christmas spirit. Performances will take place at the De Montfort Hall in Leicester until 5th January. The tickets, at £18 for both adults and children, are a little more costly than the other pantomimes, but the exciting adventures of Aladdin appeal to all ages and gender.
4. Peter Pan
If you are willing to travel a little further afield, Nottingham’s The Royal Concert Hall is performing the spectacular tale of Peter Pan. Incredibly, the all the star cast makes it more appealing: David Hasselhoff plays Captain Hook, Barney Harwood plays Peter Pan and Su Pollard provides a guest appearance as the Magical Mermaid. Prices range from £15 to £30, depending on the night you wish to go and where you wish to sit. Either way, the star cast suggests it would not be a disappointment.
