Loughborough Students Rugby's pre-season fixture against Nottingham RFC has been cancelled following the death of Nottingham lock forward Mitchell Todd. The 21-year old from Coventry died in a car crash near Normanton-on-the-Woods on August 15th.

Todd, a product of Nottingham Rugby Academy, played for Scotland Under-20s last season and has been described as "an exceptional talent." He spent loan spells as Leicester Lions and Birmingham Solihull whilst completing a degree in sports therapy at Coventry University. Todd had recently signed a new contract with the club in May but his death has come as a shock to club, fans and family.

The club has issued a statement saying: "He was an exceptional talent and a highly valued member of the squad, and he will be missed by all those that knew him. Our thoughts are with Mitchell's family and friends at this difficult time."

In response to this tragedy, the pre-season match against Loughborough Students has been cancelled and all fans who have purchased tickets have been invited for free to the first National 1 fixture of the season against Blackheath, after the high level of interest for the Nottingham fixture. The National 1 season begins on September 1st on Hollywell Park at 14:00.

From everyone at Label, our thoughts and condolences go to the players and staff at Nottingham RFC and the entire Todd family.
