Unknown to many, Loughborough University has its own student-led publishing business: Lamplight Press.

Lamplight Press PublicationLamplight Press, run mainly by English, Publishing and Design students, is a hidden gem that more students should consider getting involved in. Why? Because they have been known to publish the written and designed works of Loughborough University students in print form, something that’s not only straightforward to get involved in and fun to do (and doesn’t cost you a penny!) but also is a big benefit to those who want to highlight their work in job interviews.

Last year, the press published a Journey’s Anthology: a collection of student written and designed pieces surrounding the theme of journeys whether they be romantic, mental, physical or imaginary. The book itself is a reasonably short yet satisfying read, with collections of poetry and short stories mixed together to create a complex showcase of emerging talent.

Although it can be said that the press is an amateur organisation, the time, effort and passion that the committee have for the press is inspiring. I’ve sat down with Lamplight Press Admin Manager, Megan Cliffe, to ask her about what we’ve got to look forward to regarding the press this year.

“Lamplight Press just had its opening managers meeting for this year, we’ve talked about some projects we want to get started on and how we want to make our volunteers involved in the process. We always welcome new members and will soon be putting a call out for submissions to our new anthology, so keep your eyes peeled!”

So, whether you’ve never written anything before in your life or if you’re a master at it by now, stay tuned for what’s happening next with the press because you’ll regret it if you miss out later down the line.

If you’re interested in purchasing any of their past publications or want to know more about how you can get involved, email submission@lamplightpress.co.uk. Also, take a look at their social media – they’re on Twitter, Facebook and Tumblr!
