This Wednesday (February 20th), University Mental Health and Well-Being Day comes to campus. Heads Up will be running an event in conjunction with both the Student Support Services and the Welfare and Diversity Committee.
Head on down to the Union Piazza this Wednesday between 11am and 3pm to pick up your free ‘Mental Health Goodie Bag’ and to make a pledge to look after your wellbeing. There will be some important guests attending including the Vice Chancellor and Loughborough’s MP – Nicky Morgan.
Later in the afternoon sees the board room taken over for the ‘Eating Disorders in Sport’ talk. Taking place at 5pm, speakers such as Carolyn Plateau from the Loughborough University Centre for Research into Eating Disorders (LUCRED), Sophie Brown (support worker, First Steps Derbyshire, a charity for those who are affected by eating difficulties and disorders) and Veronica Foster, ambassador for B-Eat and author of “Exercising the Pain Away” will be talking about their experiences relating to eating disorder and exercise addiction.
Topics that will be discussed include the characteristics, risk factors and triggers of Eating Disorders within the context of sport. In addition to this, information on the types of support available for those suffering with eating difficulties, as well as information on how to support family or friends who may be experiencing an Eating Disorder will be available.
Other events throughout the day include a photo competition promoting the ‘Five Action Happiness words’ ran by Heads Up and a ‘guess the Mental Health Disorder competition’, alongside other tasks such as filling out a 'Healthy Mind Apple' to pin on our tree.
We will also be running a free ‘Yoga Laughing Class’ this Saturday, in partnership with the day, which will run from 2pm to 3pm in the Council Chambers Room upstairs in the Union building. Everyone is welcome, so feel free to come along and have a laugh with us!
