Loughborough Students RFC produced a dominant display against Hull, running in five tries, to come out 35-7 winners. Ed Rolsten crossed the line twice, either side of half time, to help the students earn a much needed bonus point victory on the First XV pitch.
On a bright and sunny October afternoon, Loughborough Students controlled the majority of possession and territory as Ed Rolsten (2), Chris Kinloch, Callum Wilson and Craig Holland all scored tries.
Despite early struggles with their line out, Loughborough's scrum remained solid earning them the penalty which led to the first try. It took just 11 minutes for Loughborough to get points on the board when, after a few tight phases the ball got spread right for Rolsten to score in the corner.
With Loughborough in the ascendency, Hull struggled with indiscipline, giving away numerous penalties, two of which were successful kicked as the Student's built their lead to 11-0 before the half hour mark.
A near perfect first half was completed when, with the Hull defence stretched, the ball again went wide and Callum Wilson was on hand to score Loughborough's second try of the afternoon nine minutes before half time.
This left the students in a healthy 16-0 lead at half time, in front of a good sized home crowd.
Just two minutes into the second half, Loughborough scored their third try o the afternoon in a manner that was very similar to the first two. Once again, it was the Hull defence being drawn in by pick and drives from the Loughborough forwards leaving plenty of space for Rolsten to dive in under the posts.
Hull struggled to maintain any real momentum in the game, and were rarely in the Loughborough 22. However, they did manage, what became a consolation try to bring the score back to 23-7 after 45 minutes.
Loughborough continued to play vast amounts of the game in the Hull half and fully deserved their final two tries. Craig Holland crossed the whitewash after 69 minutes to earn his team the bonus point before Chris Kinloch scored with the final play of the game.
Elsewhere in National League 2N, Westoe suffered their second loss of the season away at Preston Grasshoppers. This means Loughborough will move ahead of them in the table and possibly to top spot providing other results go their way.
