Autumn, the season of comfort, is loved by so many. The streets welcome us with the colours of red, orange, and brown and homes are delicately warmed by candles. If you love autumn or are in need of some extra comfort as the days darken quicker, from fashion trends to the most delicious student friendly recipes, this is your Cosy Reader’s Guide to Autumn.

Looking stylish in Autumn:

Despite it being colder, that doesn’t mean you have to leave your fashion in the summer, we can be cute and cosy without breaking the bank!

‘Scoop neck jumper’ – there’s so much choice of colours and it can be styled with jeans, a skirt with tights or over a midi dress.

They go with any outfit and many dupes have amazing quality, you can find them through small businesses on Amazon such as Sole London, TikTok shop, Vinted and more in various styles.

Plaid is in this autumn. Whether it be on trousers or jumpers, have a search on Vinted and there’s a myriad of cheap and affordable plaid clothes and it’s sustainable too.

Autumn in a cup:

We all need to take some time to slow down in the rush of university, and having autumn in a cup is one warm way to relax.

Everyone’s go-to, a hot chocolate:

Include your favourite instant hot chocolate in your monthly food shop, top it with some marshmallows, coupled with your comfort show and there you have an effortless way to boost your autumnal spirit.

Take a trip to a local café:

Just a 15-minute walk away from the University, you can have a delicious, warm drink at the award-winning café, Baobab. With their large menu, you can have an authentic Italian hot chocolate with alternative vegan options, a spiced chai latte, and numerous more.

Delicious, cheap, and warm recipes:

It’s important to prioritise your health, especially in a time where illnesses thrive. With these healthy breakfast, dinner and sweet treat recipes, you can add a touch of autumn to your day.

Breakfast:

A simple and cosy breakfast is oats/porridge, which you can have baked, instant, or overnight. You can add your favourite fruit such as apples, sprinkle some cinnamon and add yoghurt. For a grab and go if you’re running late, you can make a batch of Olive Magazine’s ‘Cinnamon, pecan and apple crumble bar’. You can make a batch the night before and enjoy with a cuppa or while making the move to your lecture.

Dinner:

BBC Good Food has many recipes such as their ‘Creamy Pumpkin Pasta’, perfect if you have any left-over pumpkins from Halloween. They also have an ‘Easy Vegetable Curry,’ a meal exploding with nutrients and practical for saving and freezing the leftovers.

Sweet treats:

BBC Good Food also has a perfect recipe on a budget – ‘Double Ginger Cookies’ – which takes only 20 minutes to prep. Bake and share with your flatmates! Or if you really want to impress the family or flatmates and have some spare time at the weekend, try BBC Good Food’s cheap recipes of ‘The Best Apple Crumble’. A sweet treat which warms the soul.

If you’re into hiking and have a free morning or afternoon, there are many walking trails which not only surround you with the warming colours of autumn, but are also a great way to get some exercise in.

Farm Shops:

A 12-minute car ride away is Manor Organic Farm Shop, a chance to see some farm animals, and try their delicious homemade brownies, according to reviews! There’s also Charnwood Forest Farm, where you can buy some fresh bread and lovely jam to combine with it, while seeing farm animals too.

Pumpkin patches:

Halloween may be over, but a trip to a pumpkin patch will boost anyone’s dopamine! Layer up, take some pictures and pick your perfect pumpkin.
