Sports Editor, Jasmine Trapnell sat down with some of the Executive Officer candidates to help students get to know them a bit more. Below you can get to know Lot Burgstra, who is running for Academic Experience Officer.

Lot Burgstra (Academic Experience candidate) describes herself as enthusiastic, open, and supportive. Over her time at Loughborough, Burgstra has been involved with lots of sports clubs and societies. She is a member of AU Waterpolo, was the social secretary and is now the treasurer for AU softball and baseball, was an action hall rep, action involvement officer, action leader, action committee member, has been an academic course rep, is now a department vice chair and peer mentor, and was also a societies hall rep!

When I asked who inspires her most, Burgstra responded Victoria Pedretti (the actress that plays Love from You). Explaining that Pedretti is really comfortable with who she is, even though she knows she is a little weird.

Burgstra’s manifesto highlights her aims to: increase feedback engagement; provide clarity on UCU strikes; provide extra support for students with a disability. Click here to read Burgstra’s full manifesto.

“Clarify how ongoing events like the UCU strikes affect your studies and how the University ensures that academic standards are being upheld”

I went on to ask Burgstra what her favourite memory is of her time at Loughborough so far, she quickly responded IMS All Stars in May 2021! Detailing how it was her first big event on campus, and everyone was out watching all the sports, the sun was shining, the vibe was just perfect.

My next question was an important one for all candidates! I asked, if you had to live in halls for one more year, which hall would you choose? This was an easy question for Burgstra she claimed, as she had lived in Claudia Parsons for 3 years and absolutely loved it! She described how the atmosphere was really friendly and that this wasn’t just limited to the students, but the sub-wardens, the warden and receptionists too.
