Candidate 1
We are the Change Makers! Here to bring change in student’s lives and experience. It is only possible when all of you unitedly stand with each other. We need to add new strategies to Loughborough student union by using our creative thinking and new solutions.
- We must have great analysis, communication skills and strong character.
- We need to bring change in education system.
- We need to bring change in the way of recreational activities and parties.
- We need to add students for more Rag and welfare & diversity events.
- We need to have new ways to deliver our enterprise and employability responsibilities.
Quick Brief about me:
I am a Master of business Administration student and worked with Accenture as consultant leading and managing teams. I already have bachelor’s degree in technology computer science engineering. I love playing sports, travelling to new places and trying new food, going to parties with friends and doing social work. I am not here to win or lose but to learn from each one of you! Cheers!
Candidate 2
The ‘i’ in my campaign is not for me. The ‘i’ is for you and your Union. As leader of the executive, this is what I will ensure the Union will do for you next year:
- iConnect
- Bringing the union to your door with the campaign, “Union connects with…”. The Exec will spend selected days in areas, such as the Village, town centre, West Park, East Park etc., connecting with more students and giving them a taste of the Union.
- iProgress
- Leading the Union back to number one for student satisfaction by ensuring the plans to renovate the LSU building are accelerated and executed in a fashion that does not jeopardise the current student experience.
- iSupport
- LSU will engage with and support its wide variety of students, not just within the Union, but across the entire campus. From Freshers to Alumni, from Postgrads to Loughborough London, from internationals to the College, the LSU will give every student the chance to get involved.
- iLead
- The Union will lead you to the best experience during your time at Loughborough. The Exec will be focused, motivated and will ensure the students are supported while maintaining a good relationship with the University.
- iReward
- Ensuring students are acknowledged and rewarded for their participation in all sections. The Union will find a feasible way in which students can gain Loyalty Points for achievements such as doing an Action project, going on a Rag raid, supporting a sporting fixture etc.
Candidate 3
If elected, I have 4 main objectives:
Common Rooms: Huge strain is currently on Halls to provide suitable space for social activity.
- I will aim to create alternative spaces such as using existing rooms as alternative places for these activities, or purpose building new areas for these activities.
- This will limit strain on Halls, whilst also providing better, more accessible spaces for Clubs and Societies.
Alumni Relations: Having been part of a Hall with huge success on their Alumni weekend, and aim to replicate this across campus:
- Appoint Alumni Reps for year groups of halls.
- Reps can be a line of contact to current committees, helping organising these weekends.
- People stay in contact after University, with chances to return for fun weekends and offer current students job advice/opportunities.
- Raise for Rag.
Improving JC’s: I will aim to restructure JC’s:
- Using space more effectively with seating areas and items such as pool tables.
- Creating suitable storage for tables and chair for nights or events, to save space.
- Use the area to hold more events, which could be in aid of Rag
Mental Health Campaign: Mental health is often seen as weak, especially within a sport-dominated University. I will aim to promote campaigns better as a Union.
- Movember can be more effective, with more information
- Campaigns such as Heads Up can be supported and promoted better
- Work with Sport and Welfare can create a campaign supporting and raising awareness.
Candidate 4
Over the next year, my priorities will be to raise awareness of student support facilities already provided by the university and improve accessibility of and interest in the many programmes offered by the Students’ Union, including societies, nightlife and day time activities.
One of the most important yet under-advertised areas of the LSU is its student support programmes, including Nightline and Student Voice. These fantastic services allow students to seek support for both academic and personal concerns in a secure and anonymous way but many students are unaware of them, forcing them to suffer in silence rather than seeking the help they need.
I will also seek to raise the awareness of sober nights at the Union, as well as introducing new events such as silent discos in order to provide a place for those less interested in the mayhem of Hey Ewe and FND; as the #1 ranked university for student experience it is essential that we make sure every student’s experience is equally enjoyable.
We must also recognise the incredible work done by the college, including art exhibitions and performances, advertising them around the university so that interested students can properly appreciate this aspect of the LSU.
Finally, I propose an LSU app that will be freely available for all students. This app will include information about nights out, events at the university and information about societies and Rag allowing students to personalize notifications about events relevant to them and bringing the Loughborough experience into the 21st Century.
R.O.N
Hi, I’m R.O.N and I stand for Re-open nominations. It’s my job to make sure you’re aware of candidate shortcomings. If you don’t feel that the candidates are applicable to the role, have a read of MY manifesto, and vote R.O.N.
Overall there is nothing too adventurous in any of these manifestos. Many points would have been better if more research would have been done.
Candidate 1
The candidate has said a lot of things we need to improve on but nowhere do they say how to do it or why. What change in the education do they want to provide, how do we add students to Rag and Welfare events?
The manifesto does not show full knowledge of how the union works, for example for this election we have added a full time member of the team for enterprise and employability.
Candidate 2
The iSupport and ilead points are quite hard implement, especially since the groups mentioned are all very different groups with varying wants and needs.
IReward is a good idea but is already done in many sections in the union in some shape or form. Action and Rag both reward volunteers with their star volunteer and fundraiser stash on top of volunteer rewards any member of exec can give to their own volunteer of the week/month in their own section.
Candidate 3
JC’s is already used to hold events, what type of events is the candidate thinking of that cannot already be held in the building? Creating storage out of nowhere is easier said than done.
There is already a campaign by Sport and Welfare in the works to talk about mental health called team talk. In what way is Heads Up not supported enough, does the candidate know enough on it to make this statement?
Candidate 4
The candidates aims to bring awareness to different sections of the union but does not say how they plan to do so.
They don’t say how they want to expand and advance the union, just that it needs better promotion.
The idea of an LSU app is in no way a new idea. It has been looked into and is quite a costly investment to make one that fits the criteria needed to be worthwhile. We are currently looking into a joint venture with the university.
