Last weekend Loughborough Sno headed to Midlothian Snowsports Centre of Edinburgh to Compete against 56 other UK universities in the BUCS Dryslope Championships.
Early Friday morning after an overnight bus journey, our competitors prepared for a day of Ski Slalom, Board GS, Board Dual Slalom, and Slopestyle.
Our boarders put in a strong performance, with James Klikis coming 6th overall in the Board GS and the duals team having to settle for 5th after just being pipped to the line by a strong Cardiff team in the group stages.
After numerous injuries, our slope style team was reduced significantly. With the steep jib section in slopestyle course seeing many spectacular crashes, Tom Smith and Josh Jenkins managed to get a respectable 1st and 5th.
Saturday’s events can be considered some of the most thrilling of the weekend with Boarder-X, Ski GS, Ski Duals, and the Big Air on the menu.
Ellen Hathway, Loughborough Sno’s race captain, put in a fantastic performance in women’s GS to come 4th in challenging, fast conditions. Luca Fuime, a first year, made an amazing debut for Loughborough; finishing 5th in male GS, which is a fantastic achievement as he has not raced on dryslope before this year. On the freestyle front, Tom Smith managed 8th place despite breaking his ski binding after the first run of the Big Air.
Despite diminished numbers and typical Edinburgh weather, the team managed two gold medals and a total of 28 BUCS points to bring home.
