While for many, the summer term is just a horrible prelude to those dreaded end of year exams, there’s actually a surprising amount of sport for students to get their teeth into.

Label Sport have compiled a guide to all the action, the majority of which is happening on campus. And if you can’t make it down, Label Sport will be providing coverage in the magazine, online and on twitter wherever possible.

Friday April 20, Loughborough Students RFC vs. Nuneaton RFC – Dan James Memorial Match

The annual Dan James Memorial Match, which in previous years has seen Loughborough Students take on England u20s, sees them play under the first XV floodlights again this year. The National League 2N champions will take on Nuneaton RFC who currently sit second from bottom in the table.

Saturday April 21, Loughborough Students WRFC vs. Team Bath WRFC – LSWRFC Varsity

The lack of an official varsity this year, hasn’t stopped the Loughborough Students Women’s RFC arranging a fixture against Team Bath. Last year, a depleted Loughborough Women’s team lost to Bath 31-10, and the side, which can include limitless alumni as well as current squad members, will be looking for revenge.

Saturday April 28, BUCS Athletics Qualifying

The BUCS Outdoor Athletics Championship is an official London 2012 Test Event this year and therefore will take place at the Olympic Stadium in London. Hence, with the chance to compete in the iconic stadium, this year’s qualifying will be a hotly contested affair amongst the Loughborough Students Athletics Club (LSAC).

Friday May 4, Loughborough University FC vs Tottenham Hotspur U18s – Stadium Launch

Loughborough Football’s first official fixture at the new Holywell Stadium will see them take on Tottenham Hotspur U18s. This, the first of a series of events to mark the opening of the new stadium, will kick off at 7.30pm will also include a legends game before the main event.

Friday May 4 – Monday May 7, Outdoor BUCS Athletics Championships

Despite it looking like Loughborough’s entry numbers to the BUCS Championships could be limited, but this won’t prevent what’s sure to be another strong showing from LSAC. The four-day long competition will be the highlight of the year for many athletes, and demand for tickets has been so high BUCS have recently announced an additional 6000 tickets.

Friday May 4 – Sunday May 6, Alumni Challenge Weekend

And finally, in what looks like an action packed weekend for sport, the Alumni Challenge Weekend will see Loughborough alumni against current students in eight different sports. In addition to this, the IMS Alumni Challenge will also take place over the weekend.

Wednesday May 9, Loughborough Students RFC vs. The Barbarians

Despite becoming the National Divison 2N champions, it could be argued this is the Student’s biggest fixture of the season. The game, which will be broadcast live on LSUTV, will see the Barbarians squad under the leadership of Loughborough graduate and current Scotland coach Andy Robinson.

The squad may include the likes of former England captain Mike Tindall who has recently been added to the Barbarians squad for their three summer fixtures against England, Ireland and Wales.

Sunday May 20, Loughborough International Athletics

The highlight of the sporting calender for many, as Loughborough will once again welcome the creme of British athletic talent. With Loughborough hosting Team GB for their 2012 preparation camp and the Olympics just around the corner, this year's LIA promises to be one of the most competitive ever.

Tuesday June 19, MCCU Twenty20 Final

The summer term may conclude with one final piece of silverware for Loughborough Students, as the five MCCU cricket teams battle it out for the crown of T20 finals. If Loughborough can qualify, then it’s sure to be an entertaining day (assuming the weather holds!).

Label will be attempting, as always, to provide broad and extensive coverage of all these events and more throughout the summer term.
