Ellie Read, running against Ali Shahid for Student Union President, told Label on February 21 that “everyone’s running around like mad” but that she’s “really, really enjoyed it.”

She also mentioned that she’s “helped other people in previous years. So it’s quite exciting to do it [herself] this time.”

Label asked her where the idea for her ‘iBelieve’ campaign originated. She talked about there being “a worry that with all this change the strong relationship between the union and university might not still be in place” but that she would work to “maintain that relationship with the university.”

With previous experience as Faraday Hall Chair, Ellie Read told Label that she has “a real passion for representing students.” If she were elected as Student Union President she would “listen to what students say”, “publish regular feedback” and be “open and honest with what we’re doing.”

She stated that being Student Union President “would be a massive challenge. But I’m incredibly passionate about what I do.”

Ellie mentioned that she was most looking forward to the Hustings, and giving her speeches as well as “listening to what other people and other candidates have to say as well.”
