This Easter, Loughborough will be hosting the Student Publication Association National Conference (SPANC) alongside the Student Publication Association (SPA) in Loughborough Students’ Union (LSU). This article includes some background information about the conference, how to buy tickets and some information on accommodation!
#SPANC16 will be held in LSU from 8th-10th April 2016. Registration will be on Friday 8th April in the afternoon, followed by a social in the evening. Saturday will see our first set of speakers and networking events followed by the SPA awards ceremony in the evening. On Sunday we’ll be back for more conference events and the day will finish around 5pm.
The conference will be full of lectures and workshops from guest speakers in the media industry as well as opportunities to network with guests and fellow delegates. Alongside this we’ll have chances to socialise with one another and celebrate all the great work of student journalists from across the country at the annual SPA awards ceremony. It’s set to be a great evening!
The whole weekend will be based in Loughborough Students’ Union, not too far from where you can stay in Royce Halls on campus if you take on one of the accommodation options. LSU’s main room is called “Room One” (videos coming soon to illustrate what’s in store on site!) and this is where we’ll host the majority of the conference and the awards, with other breakout rooms available too!
Tickets will be available on lsu.co.uk from 15th February until 18th March.
There are various options for you to choose from, so if you’re in Loughborough or one of our neighbouring towns and cities and would like to join us (great!) you can attend the conference weekend without accommodation for £50 (on the early bird rate, available for one week. The standard price is £55.
Accommodation options are available too! If you fancy staying for just the one night, prices start at £82 (inc the conference) and will increase by £5 one week into ticket sales. Accommodation for two nights plus the conference will cost £114 on early bird and £119 at the standard rate.
Very reasonable for a weekend spent with fellow aspiring journalists, networking with those already in the industry and experiencing one of the best student unions in the country (had to be said, sorry). We hope to see you in April!
