Following a successful season with the second XI, Loughborough graduate Will Tavare has signed a one year contract with Gloucestershire CCC.

23-year-old Will – the nephew of former Kent, Somerset and England batsman, Chris Tavare – is set to join up with the squad in March 2014 following a warm winter playing in Melbourne.

Gloucestershire Director of Cricket, John Bracewell, said of Will's performance, "He is a top order batsman, who deserves the opportunity to move up and provide extra competition for our batting places."

Before pursuing a degree in human biology at Loughborough, Bristol-born Will attended Bristol Grammar School. Staying true to his routes he continued to play club cricket for Bristol CC. His eminent form for the second XI during the summer saw him amass almost 1,000 runs, including three centuries.

Will said: "I come from a cricketing family and it has always been my ambition to play cricket professionally so I am very excited at the opportunity Gloucestershire are giving me.  A few things clicked for me this summer and it was my best season with the bat."

In terms of his success at Loughborough, Will averaged 32 in five first class appearances whilst representing the MCC Universities squad.

Heading out to Melbourne for his second consecutive winter, repeating a trip that was believed to be a major contributor for his development to date, Will stressed his delight to be going back before making his debut for Gloucestershire in March.

These are immensely exciting times for Will, whose promising future sees him hot on the heels of his uncle, who captained both Kent and Somerset whilst playing in 31 Test Matches and 29 one-day internationals for England, scoring nearly 25,000 first class runs.
