Label Freshers Countdown Day 5: All About Action

Action at Loughborough is your chance to give back to the community. Through various projects such as litter picks around Loughborough, working with young carers at a kids camp and volunteering at the local cinema, Loughborough students have the chance to become fully integrated within the community whilst at the same time helping those in need.

As well as local activities, there are also amazing opportunities to go abroad. With destinations including Ghana, Nepal and Mexico, Action provides you with unique, once in a life time opportunities to discover incredible parts of the world, all in the name of volunteering.

To find out more, Label spoke to Action Special Events Officer April Williams;

“Action is Loughborough’s student volunteering organisation which provides students with the opportunity to get out of the Loughborough bubble, engage with the local community and do something really valuable with their time. Whether it be a one off A-team project painting a local school or planting trees, or one of our regular projects such as feeding the local homeless or running a sports coaching session for kids, Action really does have something to offer everyone.

No matter how much time you can spare, you will definitely be improving somebody else’s day. Especially during freshers Action is the perfect way to meet new people, so don’t be shy, come along to the Action office in the Union and say hi to Sarah our Action chair, Anne our Action mummy and administrator, our 3 goldfish and the committee who you will regularly find hanging out in the office, we would love to meet you!”

Getting involved will be easier than you think, simply speak to one of your two Action reps within your hall committee and they will tell you about the opportunities coming up. To find out more visit http://www.lsu.co.uk/action/.

Tomorrow’s article is entitled ‘University Drinking Culture’, and will discuss the drinking culture at university and the problems it can bring.
