Semester two is here! We know that this is the time where studies may overtake most of our schedules. It is important to have a balance with relaxation. How we spend our weekend is a great opportunity to spend time for ourselves or with friends.
Here is a guide that has got you covered!
A lovely starting point is Queen’s Park; a nice green scenic space found in the centre of our town. It is a great asset to those who are desiring for a peaceful and relaxing walk around beautiful open nature and tree-lined paths. There is also a quaint bridge that spans over a little adorable duck pond. The park is a go-to spot particularly during spring and summer to spend the day at. However, there is nothing stopping you and your friends from bringing takeaway coffees and spreading out picnic blankets if the day is sunny.
In the same area as the park is the attached Charnwood Museum. It is a free museum that showcases the very rich and exciting heritage of the local area. Inside, it features a wide range of rotating exhibitions consisting of historical archaeological and geology of Charnwood. The way this is arranged would take roughly an hour to wander and cover every aspect, making it an undemanding experience for either yourself or in a group. It is important to note that the museum is open in the afternoon except for Mondays and Tuesdays. Besides that, it is a low-cost venture to browse about the town’s roots.
Loughborough is also the home to many lovely cafés. Plenty of independent coffee shops can be found that offer a welcoming and cosy atmosphere for customers. It is not only a great opportunity to settle in for a good meal and drink, but also fun catch-up sessions with friends or family. A great spot would be Public & Plants; a vegetarian friendly bakery and cafe designed with communal tables and many leafy plants. While it can be quite crowded, its wonderful brunch menu ranging from coffee and sourdough makes it worth the wait. Another cafe of recommendation is Mojo Cafe. It offers a unique fusion of regular cafe favourites and traditional Indian dishes. Very much a range of dishes you can choose from. Many have recommended their breakfast option as well as their delicious cookies that they have on display. Such diversity in their menu also allows the opportunity to try different and new dishes during returning visits.
Lastly, we have a lovely local Odeon Cinema for those who are in the mood for watching a film. For those looking for a budget-friendly option, the chain does Saver Mondays which is where general tickets are at a cheaper rate for the day. What is better than going out to the cinema?
Whether it be cosy places for some alone time or to go out with friends, our local town offers many ways for you to spontaneously spend the weekend!
