Today Label caught up with some of the new students across campus and asked a few probing, and sometimes embarrassing, questions (in front of your parents, soz guys).
Our first trip all the way across the road from the Union to Bill Mo, where we met Ben, who was a little nervous about getting lost on this huge campus â we donât blame you!
What is the weirdest thing you packed?
A pasta thing, I canât even describe it!
Can you let us in on your best hangover cure?
Definitely a fried breakfast.
And mum, what do you think he will get up to now heâs away from home?
Do you know what, I think itâs best not to know!
Agreed! Whatâs the first thing youâll do when you get home?
Eat chocolate to cope with the loss!
Sounds like a good idea! Next we met up with Bailey, who was also moving into Bill Mo and was looking forward to a good sleep already â you donât know whatâs about to hit you, Bailey!
Whatâs your best dish? Are you a good cook?
No! Egg and toast is about it!
What are you most nervous about?
Just living really!
We’re sure you will! Whatâs the weirdest thing you packed?
Hmm, I donât know. Probably my bobblehead.
Yep, thatâs pretty weird! Finally, whatâs your go-to drink?
Ribena.
Hmmmm are you sure about that, Bailey? We hope you have a fab Freshersâ.
Next we dropped by Towers, where we spoke to former Towers resident and Label Style Editor, Natasha Bennett and other Towers former freshers Alice Kirkaldy and Alex Marchant who told us all about Freshersâ from their perspective.
Are you excited to return to halls?
Yes, I love the social atmosphere! Everyoneâs friendly, thereâs loads to get involved with in the heart of campus, itâs close to everything and I can leave for lectures 5 minutes before!
What do you think it will be like living with freshers?
Itâs exciting because you can impart your wisdom of living in halls onto them and help them along the way to not make the same mistakes!
Whatâs the best thing about living in halls?
The social aspect. You meet some great people you would have never met otherwise!
Whatâs your best advice for freshers coming into halls?
Take every opportunity you get and smile! Go on nights out you wouldnât normally go to, even if your floor arenât, youâll have the best time.
On our distant travels from Towers to Royce, we encountered a group of freshers living in town, Carlos, Louise, Sonya and Sophia, who are really looking forward to the Freshersâ Week ahead.
What are you most nervous about?
Finding our buildings â this campus is so big!
Youâre not wrong there! What are you going to miss most from your respective homes (in France and Spain â exotic!)?
NOTHING!
Thatâs what we like to hear, although you might start to miss the good weather pretty soon! What about what you are going to miss least
Ooh, probably our jobs!
Whatâs your go-to drink?
Rum and Coke.
And on the flip side, your best hangover cure?
Just lots and lots of water!
Finally, whatâs your best dish?
Pastaâs always easy. Ooh, or a nice lasagne!
Thanks guys, hope you didnât get too lost on your way back to town! Continuing on our journey we bumped into Evie who had just moved ALL the things into Royce.
Whatâs the first thing you did when you moved in, Evie?
Had a little walk about and got a feel for the campus.
Good idea! Whatâs your best dish?
Well I donât do a lot of cooking to be honest, but I do a lot of baking. I love cakes!
Youâll be very popular with your flat then! Whatâs the weirdest thing
you packed?
It was probably a stuffed toy.
Everyone has them! And what are you most excited about?
Freshersâ and the general atmosphere, I think.
What will you miss most?
My parents and two dogs.
And the least?
The area Iâm from, the Hull area.
Finally, whatâs your go âto drink AND hangover cure?
Always peach schnapps and just lots of bread!!!
Next was Elvyn, and we met Will. Itâs safe to say we sufficiently embarrassed him when we asked for his best chat up line⌠in front of his mum!
Hey Will! Whatâs the first thing youâll do when you move in?
Meet my flatmates and see who Iâll be living with!
Whatâs your best dish?
Well, I worked in a kitchen over summer so I can actually cook a few good meals.
Your housemates will love you then! What are you most nervous about?
All of my friends have gone to university together, so Iâm really on my own!
Whatâs the weirdest thing you packed?
Probably my toffee vodka.
Whatâs your go-to beverage?
Well, now itâs toffee vodka!
What are you most looking forward to in Freshersâ?
Everything looks great, but tonightâs German themed night will be fun.
What are you going to miss most from home?
My mum!
What are you going to miss least from home?
Probably all of the housework.
Whatâs your best hangover cure?
McDonaldâs!
Mine too, Will, mine too. Finally, after our monster trek around campus, we reached DC and met Thomas and his family.
Whatâs the first thing youâll do when you move in?
Walk around a bit, familiarize myself with the area!
Whatâs your best dish?
Itâs got to be pasta!
What are you most nervous about?
Itâs just something Iâve never experienced, so I donât know what to expect.
Whatâs the weirdest thing you packed?
Probably an iron, which Iâll never use
Whatâs your go-to beverage?
Rum and Coke.
Thatâs very popular today! What are you most looking forward to in Freshersâ?
Meeting new people and going out.
What
are you going to miss most from home?
Iâll definitely miss my family.
What are you going to miss least from home?
My sister!
Whatâs your best hangover cure?
Iâm still yet to discover one!
So are we all! Please do let us know if you happen upon one, Thomas!
So, that concludes move-in day one. Donât forget you can catch coverage from LCR, Lens and LSUTV at media.lsu.co.uk, you might even spot yourself!
Thanks to everyone that spoke to us and we look forward to meeting more freshers tomorrow!
