Friday night saw David Collett take on Butler Court in their last game of the IMS football season, a match which was fittingly dedicated to Tom Healy, a keen supporter, who tragically passed away during the Easter break.
Tom’s family had travelled to Loughborough to join the large crowd of his friends, who had turned out to show their support despite the poor weather. A minute of silence was followed by a minute of applause, before the game got underway.
Tom’s dad and cousin both featured in the David Collett line up and played the first ten minutes of the game much to the excitement and support of the crowd. The game flowed well and there was some good play from both sides, and some impressive individual runs. DC scored 15 minutes in, which was quickly equalized by a well taken Butler goal, to end the half at 1-1.
The second half was action packed, and DC’s Josh Dixon scored his second of the game. The momentum never really slowed down after this, and David Collett went on to score five more goals to end the game 7-1. Tom’s dad and uncle came on for the last ten minutes, with his uncle scoring the last goal of the game.
The final whistle sounded, to which both sides and the crowd applauded the game and its significance. There is no doubt that ‘The Thomas Healy Memorial Match’ will be an annual fixture in the IMS calendar.
Andy Smith, manager of the David Collett side said, “It was a great occasion, the turn out for Tom’s memorial game was incredible and the lads certainly did the event justice with another great win. They have been brilliant all year and this was an awesome way to clinch winning the league. Also a huge thank you must go to Butler who were very sporting throughout the game and certainly helped make the night special.”
