Season four of Invincible has been a wild ride so far; returning characters, new characters, and plenty of overlapping storylines to make a marvel fan weep! But as season four’s penultimate and finale creep up on us, fans are giddy with anticipation for the comeuppance of the war against Viltrum.
We start off with a reminder of the destruction left by Conquest and the ‘multi-marks’ in the previous season’s finale. New threats such as Universa, voiced by Danai Gurira and Dinosaurus, voiced by Matthew Rhys are rising threats, sure to return in the final. Kirkman sticks to his Walking Dead roots by having Gurira, join her co-stars Jefferey Dean Morgan, Lauren Cohan, and most importantly Steven Yeun, Invincible himself.
The latest episode starts with Conquest’s body lying dormant after Mark’s commitment to strangling him, buried by Nolan/Omniman. We get to see Oliver and his previously neglectful father have some much needed father and son bonding time after they make a steak. And as we wait for the final episodes of season four, those repercussions are still catching up. After a few anti-gravity space fights, the uncovering of the mole on Terestria, and Kragg’s warship being split in half by Mark and Oliver- the episode ends with the Coalition forces swearing to head to Viltrum to end the war at its source.
With the anticipation rising, fans cannot wait for April 22nd to come any sooner.
However, this star studded cast has brought up some questions with the fans- as while it is fun hearing a voice you recognise, if the animation you’re looking at is worsened because of it- the reward is lessened. Many fans have taken to social media to complain about the ‘png’-like scenes such as and flying characters just being dragged across a background without any movement or fight scenes being skipped over for a comedy gag that’s easier to animate.
In episode four, Hurm- Hollywood legend, known for classics such ‘The Evil Dead’ Bruce Campbell voiced Satan himself. And with the other returning famous cast members from Mark Hamil, Sandra Oh, to JK Simmons, fans have started to wonder if the cast’s paychecks are causing the animation to suffer. With Atom-Eve left pregnant on earth, Mark barely recovering from Conquest making his stomach drop, and Telestria in pieces.
The fate of Invincible is bound to be changed forever as our beloved characters approach the planet Viltrum.
