Loughborough Cross Country team swept up the medals and claimed the BUCS Champions title once again- sports editor, Jasmine Trapnell, details the events of the day that lead to the win.

Loughborough were once again crowned BUCS national cross country champions on 4th February 2023! Winning 7 out of the 12 available individual medals and 3 of the 4 available individual golds – Loughborough lived up to its reputation.

We had 3 individual wins: Alex Millard in the women’s long race; Beth Morely in the women’s short race; and Josh Fiddaman in the men’s short race. However, Matt Stonier still managed to earn a silver medal in the men’s long race after unfortunately losing the battle to Solent’s Mahamed Mahamed.

Loughborough had 3 team wins overall in the: women’s short race, men’s short race, and men’s long race – whilst also taking the overall title of BUCS Champions.

Other medals were also won by: Rowan Miell-Ingram in the men’s short race; Abbey Donnelly in the women’s long race; and Louise Hackett in the women’s short race.

The successful day was held in Pembrey Country Park in Wales and captained by Jack Foot and Cara Inch. The day before the races began both captains posted a message of motivation on @lborocrosscountry on Instagram.

Well done to everyone who represented Loughborough in the cross-country BUCS championships! We look forward to seeing the athletics team at BUCS Athletics Indoor Championships from the 24th – 26th February in Sheffield – hopefully bringing home yet another title!
