Volunteer writer, Alannah Joy, reports on the University’s Creative Community Day, telling of its overall success and the fun that was to be had.
On Saturday October 27th, the university opened its doors to the general public all in aid of inspiring creativity and providing artistic opportunities for the local community.
Upon entering Martin Hall, it was immediately evident the event was a complete success. All the activity tables were filled with happy children and brimming parents, testing out what was on offer. With activities such as slime making, book folding and Green screen fun it was no surprise the events attracted 100’s of people given the amount of activities on offer, all of which were funded by the university.
Organisers of the event Anna Milewska and Emily Capewell commented: “Having always done STEM day, the idea behind today’s event was to celebrate creativity on campus and bring families together… the event has been very successful, and we’d like to thank all the contributors and those who helped make the day so successful”. When asked about possible ideas for future events they said they wanted to build on the relationship they had created through organising community creative day and welcome more families onto campus’.
Donna Cross, a parent at the event commented, “we have had a lovely time today, there isn’t anywhere else to do things like this and it was nice to get onto campus and look about”.
The event not only included university ran activities but also incorporated the Student’s Union as LSU Action volunteers were on hand to face paint, while Welfare and Diversity volunteers were present to build a ‘tree of positivity’, adding to the overall community feel of the event.
