With the charts now firmly set on a Friday release, we thought rather than run down the top 40, we’d take a look back at some of the best number ones since music began (well, charts began). Bringing you everything from eighties classics to noughties bangers, make sure to be here, every Friday, for a flashback of some of the biggest chart hits.
Up this week: Mark Morrison – ‘Return of the Mack’
We’re never going to apologise for choosing this one. Cheesy? Yes. A classic? Yes. FND ready? Also yes.
Taking the number one spot in the April of 1996, ‘Return of the Mack’ is an R&B master class – a full on nineties banger. Recorded by British hip hop artist Mark Morrison, featuring on every 90s classic album going, and celebrating its 20th anniversary earlier this year, ‘Return of the Mack’ has, without a doubt, stood the test of music time.
Still spun at almost every club across the country at least one night a week, we love this track, and we know you do too (who doesn’t really?). And although it was knocked off the top of the charts by George Michael a couple of weeks later, ‘Return of the Mack’ remains a sure fire party starter. So turn it to 11 people, sing it loud, and enjoy your Friday night!
