With the final issue of Label out for this year, and the final one for me as Editor, I’ve decided to grace you all with a final post on the LSU Media website. and “officially” sign off as 2015-16 Label Editor at Loughborough Students’ Union.

Thank you

The first thank you’s need to go out to the Label committee and particularly those who were shortlisted or won awards at the Media Awards last week! Special thanks goes to Leanna Kightley and Greg Carter for helping me out a lot this year- and especially the design team who have done a fantastic job of making our publicationTest look as great as it has throughout the year. Many thanks to everyone who has made this year as Editor so challenging, interesting, exciting and ultimately rewarding, it’s been a blast. I’ll genuinely miss the random late nights, pages of reading, splash designs, planning, meeting deadlines, the buzz of an exciting news article or comment piece on its way out, and most importantly working alongside a group of talented students.

What have we done?

With a Freshers issue and three Exec Elections leaflets produced in addition to our normal seven print copies, you’re bound to have seen Label in paper or online this year, well, at least I hope so- and if not, you can still view them all online, and find out a bit more about the talent that I’m talking about.

I can’t deny that this year has been stressful at times, but it’s one of the things that has made my Loughborough experience so eclectic and busy, and I wouldn’t have had it any other way. Not only that, we also held SPANC16, the Student Publication Association National Conference – and we were shortlisted for an LEA as a team for our work! Although a true honour in itself, we went on to be awarded “Highly Commended Team of the Year” at the awards last night (see picture)!

What next?

I can only hope to have helped a group of people get into student journalism this year and to see more progress in the years to come, be this through writing or designing. For those of you involved in student journalism, I’m really not going far, I’m now the SPA Midlands Regional Officer, so any Midlands Student Journalism/ non-direct Label queries can come to me!

I hope you’ve enjoyed and engaged with our content this year as much as I have. Now, on this final (official) evening of the term, I pass over to Leanna Kightley for the year ahead. In the meantime, do be sure to check out our final issue of the year- now available online here!

You can still get involved by emailing [email protected] at any time.
