Loughborough has just received first place in the ‘Clubs and Societies’ award: a fantastic start! Emma Leech, the Director of Marketing and Advancement at Loughborough University has taken to twitter to congratulate Jenna Holmes and Luke Thompson (current VP societies and sport respectively) on the speeches they made on accepting the award.
As the award for ‘Accommodation’ is announced, Loughborough has narrowly lost out to Bangor University, coming third.
In the short break, Label spoke to the Exec who are present at the awards, to find out how they are feeling.
With regards to Loughborough’s win for the ‘Clubs and Societies’ award Jenna Holmes commented that her and Luke are:
“immensely proud to pick up the award. Students are the driving force of the clubs and societies, and it is a privilege to watch them work and take leadership.”
Furthermore, we asked current Union President, Jess Excell to give us an overview of the evening so far, and she noted that the
“atmosphere is very busy, with lots of universities anticipating the second half of the results, and we are all just thrilled to be here and a part of it all.
The second half of the awards has started strongly, with Loughborough taking first place for the ‘Best Students Union’ for the third year in a row! There have been numerous tweets surrounding this fantastic win, with Manuel Alonso, the Director of Student Services at Loughborough University, dubbing it the ‘second win of the night’ and sharing a few photos.
Furthermore, our ‘University Facilities’ were awarded seconded place in the awards, just missing out to Leeds College of Art. This has been shortly followed by another Silver for the ‘Best University for Job Prospects.’
The final award of the evening is the ‘University of the Year 2016’, and Loughborough gains a Silver for this as well, coming second to Harper Adams University. Overall, we have come away with excellent results from this years WhatUni Awards. Angela Truby, Marketing Manager in HE, sums up the awards in her tweet: “2nd this year. I work for a truly amazing place and that’s been bought home to me all day #LboroFamily #WUSCA.”
