If you needed anymore proof that The 1975 are on a mission to reincarnate 80s pop in all its glory, look no further than the latest single to be released from their notoriously difficult and seemingly wordy second album I Like It When You Sleep, for You Are So Beautiful Yet So Unaware of It.

Arriving as the third track from the LP, The Sound is quite simply 80s synth heaven. Where previous singles Love Me and UGH! pushed the band move into uncharted territories in terms of arrangement and tone, this time around, there is no mistaking The 1975’s indulgent pop roots. With pulsing disco beats and funky overtones that call back to previous releases (think She Way Out), The Sound is sure fire and dance floor ready.

Throwing in a digital guitar solo for good measure, the ever ostentatious Matty Healy and co. pull off synth pop in assured style, singing, as only The 1975 can, about a “sycophantic, prophetic, Socratic junkie wannabe”. Reminiscent of new wave classics such as Depeche Mode’s, Just Can’t Get Enough, the track wears its heart on its sleeve, a pop song with no apologies, proving all the better for it.

I Like It When You Sleep, for You Are So Beautiful Yet So Unaware of It is set for release on February, 26th.
