The Best Christmas and Winter Films narrowed down…
It’s the most wonderful time of the year!
Snuggling up on the sofa with a hot chocolate and a Christmas film with your friends or family is definitely one of the best things about winter! As Christmas is nearly here, nothing gets everyone more into the festive spirit than a good old Christmas film. We all have our personal favourites, but there are a few classics that everyone agrees on. Having asked a bunch of students we’ve ranked the top 5 best Christmas films and this is what they’ve chosen:
Love Actually 
The ultimate favourite Christmas film chosen by students is Love Actually! This film really stands out due to all the different story lines that are included, yet how they are still seamlessly connected. It shows us the best kind of love is at Christmas time, and it’s shown in so many ways, through relationships, friendship, family and even strangers.
Home Alone
This comedy film full of fun and laughter gets everyone into the festive spirit with its amazing soundtrack
of classic Christmas songs. The first Home Alone, where Kevin is left alone in his house aged 8 is also a personal favourite of mine, as it reminds me of the magical element Christmas has on us when we’re young. Released in 1990, this is still one of the favourites of our Loughborough students.
The Holiday
Rom-com starring Jude Law, Cameron Diaz and Kate Winslet is full of the best romantic stories that everyone dreams of. The relationships and friendships that blossom from a house swap in Surrey and L.A are perfect, as it’s set all around Christmas time and New Year’s.
It’s a Wonderful Life
This 1946 black and white American classic is one not only our parents love, but also one
favoured by our students. Due to its old-fashioned style and the mystical, Christmassy element of the guardian angel, It’s a Wonderful Life is still a classic.
The Grinch
An endearing film based on Dr. Seuss’ children’s tale makes everyone’s heart melt at Christmas. A young girl befriends ‘The Grinch’, who’s anti-Christmas and greatly disliked by the people of ‘Whoville’. But she manages to change his ways and encourages him to fall in love with Christmas too – yay!
