Label chatted with Ellis Jarvis to find out what makes her your best candidate for next years VP College, read on to find out more!
Why are you running for this position?
I’m running for VP College because I want to make the connection between the College and LSU a lot stringer and I want there to be more links between the under 18s and the further education students with the students’ union. The bridge between the two isn’t as it should be. I want the Gables Hall to be as sort of up there as the other halls at the university, I feel that its under par and that’s something that I really want to work on, especially with freshers’ week as well because I know that it’s a big area for improvement.
What makes you more suited than other candidates?
I’ve actually been at Loughborough College for three years, I’ve done my degree here and I’m currently doing BSc level and I was in Gables Hall, so I know who to talk to and what to improve because I’ve been there myself. Also, the College side of things, I know what can be improved on again, so publicity of certain events or committees.
Can you tell us about your theme? 
I’ve not got a campaign theme, but I do have a poster and it has a crossword on it, so people can just sit down and relax, it’s related to myself, the words you have to find are Ellis, Jarvis, For, College.
What’s the most important aspect of your manifesto?
The most important thing is getting the link between the College and the Students’ Union stronger, that’s all I want to work towards. Things that aren’t promoted are RAG, Action, IMS, that sort of thing, which I really want to bring up as part of the student experience at Loughborough that we’re missing out on.
In one sentence why should people vote for you?
You should vote for me because I’m really motivated to get the College up to scratch and get The Gables on par with other university halls.
What are you most looking forward to about campaigning?
I’m looking forward to meeting new people definitely, if I can get a night out in, I will! All that I can really!
What are you least looking forward to?
There is nothing in particular, I’m looking forward to it all!
What part of campaigning are you going to focus on the most?
The Bubble Debate might be challenging, see how it goes!
What is the main focus of your campaign?
With the College, I think it will be a lot easier because it’s smaller and I can make my way around with posters and I know where to go. I’ve only been to certain buildings in the university, so that will be quite hard but I have friends at the uni so I don’t think it will be too much of a problem.
What have you spent your budget on so far?
Just printing!
What made you want to run for this position?
Partly because I’m a College student and because it’s a new role, I feel I can bring much more to this position and build on what’s been done by G.
What do you like about the way the role has been carried out this year?
I like the idea of the College getting more involved with the university definitely, because I know that there is so much more to be done to make that link, so if I can build on that I know it will be a benefit to everyone!
What new ideas will you be bringing in?
Planning- so some students might not have heard of RAG, Action, IMS. I know how fun IMS can be, and it’s not as competitive as with AU sport and it’s a bad thing to be missing out on! So getting everyone involved with the students’ union is one of my main points.
Can you tell us something that not many people know about you?
I do Gymnastics for AU and I can solve a Rubiks cube…I’m from Leicester and I live in halls!
What three characteristics do you have that make you well suited to this role?
Motivated, enthusiastic and fun!
